Gackstetter’s 5th Grade Class 
This Week:
In Religion we are working on chapter 25 “Celebrating our
roots.” There will be an open book quiz on Thursday.
Friday is May Crowning. All students must wear their full dress
uniform and bring a flower to offer to Mary. The living rosary
will begin at 10:00.
In math we are currently working in chapter eight, fraction
computation. Homework is to be done daily in workbooks and class
work and notes should be done in math journals.
In Social Studies we are studying a unit six “The Revolutionary
War.” This week we will be focusing on lesson two “How did other
nations help the Patriots?” There will be an open book quiz on
Thursday.
In Reading we are finishing, The Witch of Blackbird Pond.
We will be reading chapters 20-21 this week. There will be a
quiz on chapters 17-21 on Thursday. We will be reviewing the
novel this week to prepare for our unit test on the book on
Monday, May 19th.
In science we are working on chapter 6 on weather. This week’s
lesson will focus on lesson three, “What causes severe weather?”
There will be an open book quiz on Friday.
I will be tutoring on Wednesdays. For any students that need
additional help on any subjects in class. Tutoring is from 3:00
to 3:30.
Colonial Day
Thank you to all the parents who volunteered their time for
Colonial Day. It was a wonderful day for everyone! The kids
really enjoyed the day and I cannot thank everyone enough for
helping with planning, set-up, and food donations.
Book Report
Third Trimester Book Report was sent home on Monday. Please
review the handout for specific instructions. All book reports
will be due May 20th
Spelling
Our spelling test is on Friday. Spelling packets are
distributed on Monday and are due, completed and returned to me,
by Friday. The spelling words for the week are as follows:

Homework Policy
If a
student fails to turn in any assignment, I do accept
late work one day after the due date. Once that one day has
passed the assignment will no longer be accepted.
Tardy Policy
When a
student is late, the parent will be charged $5. This means
students must be inside the classroom when class starts to be
considered on time.
A.R. Points
There will be an A.R. check this week. All points are June 5th.
You are welcome to come in anything to check your child’s
A.R. points.
