May, 2008
Language Arts
Last week third grade celebrated Spring with a week of writing poems.
Parents can enjoy their child's creative works in Haiku, Cinquain, Shape
poem, Word poem, and Limerick, during Open House on Tuesday, May 6 from
7:00 – 8:00 PM. This week we are sharpening our writing skills by
writing a Narrative paragraph. On Friday, we will be having a reading
test on our latest reading selection, The Mysterious Giant of
Barletta, pp. 293-309.
Religion
Through Family Life, the students are learning the human person is a
unity of body and soul. Students are also learning to identify good
expressions of affection and friendship, and to describe ways to stay
safe around strangers.
Math
In Chapter 8, the students are learning about characteristics and
relationships of plane and solid figures. They will also learn about
perimeter, area, and volume.
Science
Continuing our studies in Life Sciences, third grade is focusing on how
living things harm themselves and others when they bring about changes
in the environment.
Social Studies
Ending our studies on California Indians, we are investigating how the
Europeans changed life for California Indians.
